Spiralling Into Joy
Have you ever thought you were over something when it suddenly resurfaced?
Maybe you finally felt joyful again, only for anxiety to raise its familiar head or perhaps your responsibilities lightened, but the yoke of care is unexpectedly back on your shoulders.

One of our first reactions can be despondency. It doesn't seem fair, will we never be free of this reaction or emotion or behaviour?
At times like this it's vital to remember that, although we may think that we're back where we started, healing is a spiral - and that's one of the commonest patterns in nature for a reason.
The fact is that each time the familiar situation or emotion arises it's not the same because WE are not the same. We're that bit older and wiser and we're being given another chance to choose differently.
A repetitive situation is trying to draw your attention to a part of you that needs healing. So although it may be frustrating and even feel as if the universe has got it in for you, take a step back to look through the eyes of your higher self. Notice what pattern is recurring and how you choose to react. What other options are available?
What if you reach out to someone and talk about it? What if you take essences or have a massage or go for more regular walks or try other treatments? What if you decide to share the responsibility this time or even hand it back to the person it belongs to? What if you say 'no' when you usually say 'yes' - or the other way round.

From Fearful Control to Unconditional Love - Bach to Basics |
|
Do you like to know where your loved ones are and what they're up to? Do you often offer advice and help when you can see it's needed? Are you aware of a fear of abandonment?
Chicory is a remedy that addresses one of the key fears we all have from the moment we're born - the fear of abandonment.
As a chid we're hard-wired to connect survival with being loved and cared for. The attachment we form with our parents and care-givers will dictate how secure we feel. If we have a reassuring, open-hearted connection all is well but many of us live through moments of doubt and difficulty when that connection isn't available, so we unconsciously create cords to hook into those we love, in the same way a baby might grasp your finger tightly.
We may also try to make ourselves indispensable to ensure we're not left, so we become 'the fixer' or constantly take care of others, anticipating needs and being a reliable helper.
Of course there's nothing wrong with wanting to look after those we love - it's a question of checking your true motivation. A Chicory state happens when we give with an agenda. We may be unconsciously trying to build credit with someone and then feel aggrieved when we ask for help in return and it's not forthcoming. When we don't get the result we want we may guilt-trip others by reminding them of all we've done for them.
We may take on the role of the go-to person for advice and then feel miffed when that advice isn't followed. We may feel offended when somebody makes their own way instead of asking us for a lift or finds their own accommodation instead of staying with us.
When we need Chicory we have a 'need to be needed' because, when we're needed, we have less fear of being abandoned. It also feeds a need to feel in control of those we love. This is often the dynamic in co-dependent relationships which many of us have grown up with, so it may feel normal even though it isn't healthy.
People with emotional awareness can feel the 'stickiness' of this kind of caring and it often has the opposite effect of driving them away.
Energetically this dynamic creates cords into the solar plexus and will often affect digestion and drain energy so you feel tired, upset and resentful. Essentially we're connecting through our personality patterns rather than our heart.

This TLC training led by Soul Midwife and Communications Coach Mandy Preece is designed to enhance the care offered by anyone to people at the end of life.
At the forefront of the training is compassionate support to the dying and those with progressive or life-limiting illness. The training focusses on holistic care, listening, the stages of dying framework and sitting with people in the last moments of life.
TLC involves a unique examination of the stages of dying and offers simple tools and gentle therapeutic techniques to aid comfort.
Soul midwives are non-medical, holistic companions who guide and support the dying in order to facilitate a gentle and tranquil death. The School's Gentle Dying techniques in holistic palliative care have now been adopted in many hospices throughout the UK. The TLC training is an approved course from the Soul Midwives' School being offered nationally throughout the UK.
Please be aware that this workshop takes place over two sessions: the first on Saturday 13th November at 9am-12pm UK time, and the second the week after on Saturday 20th November at 9am-12pm UK time.
TLC is based on the pioneering movement of the Soul Midwives' School founded by Felicity Warner (voted 2017 End of Life Care Champion by The National Council for Palliative Care and the Royal College of Nursing and End of Life Doula of the Year 2017 by the Good Funeral Awards).
Course content includes:
- Four stages of dying framework
- Simple therapeutic techniques to calm agitation, anxiety and tension including soothing touch
- Listening skills
- Sitting alongside during the final hours
