How many doors have you opened?
I love the image that the late Debbie Ford conjured up of us all being born in a palace with many beautiful rooms, each containing a different quality we've chosen to express in this lifetime.
As we grow we may feel uncomfortable and disapproved of for certain aspects of our personality. Perhaps it's our exuberance, how we express our love, our ability to see the difficult truth in a situation or our connection to other realms. One by one we close those doors to try to fit in until, by the time we're adults, many of us are living in an anonymous bedsit.
I hope the tools below help you to open those doors again, reclaim the gifts inside and inhabit the palace you were born to live in - as your whole authentic self.

| Self-Serving to Self-Soothing | |
Are you always happy to help? Do you love to be needed and give helpful suggestions? Do you move straight into intense relationships and only feel at ease with loved ones close by?
There's a distorted expression of love that's passed down through generations, because it's very hard to offer truly unconditional love if you've never experienced it yourself. Many of us grow up believing we're only lovable if we 'do as we're told', if we work hard, if we're caring or entertaining or we collude in pretending that everything's OK when it isn't.... the list goes on.
The distortion creates an unwitting dependency, making it hard to create mature inter-dependent relationships because you or a parent, child or partner pulls strings however unconsciously, to maintain closeness; using illness, guilt trips, angry outbursts or other means to keep you together in a cycle of need and powerlessness rather than choice.
If you were asked to grow up too soon, you may be especially vulnerable to this 'mother hen' way of relating. For example you may have been sent to boarding school, a parent may have died young, been away at war, been physically or mentally ill or was otherwise emotionally or physically absent, so you had to look after yourself, and maybe siblings too, at a young age. This sets up a fear of abandonment which can lead to possessiveness which stifles a healthy expression of love.
Chicory is the Bach remedy for this almost universal pattern. It helps us find our own way to love ourselves unconditionally, so we don't we spend our lives pleasing others in the hope of winning their approval and affection. It can be a painful path to healing - to face our inner void of fearful need instead of projecting it outwards - but one of the most worthwhile.

| Perfect Timing - Cat's Claw | |
This beautiful flower came through for the first time in a recent attunement and I'd only come across it before as a herbal remedy. Known as Cat's Claw in several languages, this clinging vine helps you to know when it's time to hold on or intervene and when to step back and let go.
It also helps you detach from compulsions, unhealthy habits and relationships that have 'got their claws into you' and create new ones which support you going forward.
I was also shown that this essence relates to peristalsis - the rhythmic holding on and letting go of our digestive muscles as it passes food along for processing. This rhythm can be disturbed by stressful emotional experiences leading to problems such as IBS.
Cat's Claw's yellow colour indicates that it works on the solar plexus where we hold our identity and define our boundaries and digest our experiences, so if you've had your boundaries disrespected, especially as a child, this helps you feel safe enough to take up your proper space.
