How does the universe speak to you? And what's it been saying lately? One of the best parts of 'waking up' for me was noticing how the universe had been trying to get my attention in such an imaginative variety of ways.
Sometimes it whispers, other days it has to shout because my 'monkey mind' is juggling bananas or my inner sloth has slipped into auto-pilot.
I remember once feeling frustrated because a ponderous farm vehicle had pulled out in front of me. As I consciously breathed out I suddenly noticed the enormous sign on the back: Move Slowly. Indeed - apparently the previous day's speeding ticket wasn't enough of a message:)
More recently I'd consciously asked how to break out of a cycle of negative thinking - then I began to notice the numbers 111 around me. Whether it was the number of emails left in my inbox, the amount of time left on the washing machine or miles-worth of petrol in the car - and it always coincided with a doubtful or negative thought. The universe can be a great coach:)
When we're awake to its messages we can see that we're co-creating with an intelligent, loving energy field that always has our back. Even when that loving force can't physically help or console us, it will send just the right people to do so.

Why is authenticity so vital to our health and happiness?
In this four minute video author, doctor and trauma expert, Gabor Mate sums up our core dilemma that causes so much pain in our lives and relationships.
It begins in childhood when our need for attachment and love is in conflict with our need to be authentic. When we have to make an impossible choice that goes something like this: 'being me and having the needs that I have appears not to be acceptable to my caregivers, so I have to cover up and adapt in order to get the love and attention I need to survive'.
But as Gabor says, authenticity is as important to our survival as attachment. In evolutionary terms, if we weren't in touch with our body and our gut instincts we wouldn't survive. Yet the behaviour patterns and emotional responses that we adopt to create or maintain attachment take us further and further away from our authentic self. We can end up cut off from our inner wisdom, with no sense of purpose and a deep need to 'find ourselves', because that's precisely who we've lost.
 This is the path of personal growth - the need to go back and find, one by one, the pieces of ourselves that were covered up, suppressed, rejected, unacknowledged, unseen or left undeveloped.
Thankfully there's a growing movement towards valuing transparency and authenticity - an understanding that you can be well-intentioned and still have human flaws. Decades of spin doctors and a need to package everything as bright, shiny and perfect, have certainly not taken us in the right direction.
You can't add your unique voice to the world until you find it, accept it and allow it to express itself - flaws and all - so please use all the tools and support you can find to uncover your true self.
